There are few things that I love more than a good chicken wing.

At this point, I'm pretty sure I could write a love letter to them, but I'll spare you and just get on with this post. 

These chicken wings are my new favorite recipe. With so many people doing a Whole30 or just trying to make healthier choices, I was determined to make a wing recipe that everyone could enjoy at a party without compromising on flavor.

In addition to these wings being delicious, they're Whole30 compliant, Paleo friendly, gluten-free, dairy-free, and just about every other label you can think of. Except, vegetarian or vegan...I'm not sure I have it in me to make a vegetarian/vegan chicken wing...

The best part about these chicken wings, in my opinion, is that you make them in the oven.

There's no need to pull out a gallon of oil and fry anything. Instead, you just throw them on a baking sheet with a little avocado or coconut oil and let them do their thing for a little while in the oven until crispy. 

Second best part is the sauce. Coconut aminos, ginger, and a few spices combine to make the most flavorful sweet and sticky sauce. Plus, these wings get their sweetness from pineapple juice concentrate instead of added sugar!

Ok, I'm going to wrap this up now because I could honestly go on and on about how delicious these wings are forever and ever. Instead, I'll just encourage you to try them for yourself. I promise you won't be disappointed!


Whole30 Hawaiian Chicken Wings

Sweet and Sticky Chicken Wings | All the Healthy Things

Ingredients: 

For the chicken wings: 

  • 1 tablespoon avocado or coconut oil

  • 1.5 - 2 pounds split chicken wings

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 1 tsp garlic powder

  • sliced green onions, for serving

For the sauce: 

  • 1/2 cup coconut aminos

  • 3/4 cup pineapple juice

  • 3 slices of ginger

  • 1/4 tsp crushed red pepper flakes

  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder

  • 1/4 tsp onion powder

  • pinch of salt

Instructions: 

  1. Preheat the oven to 425 degrees. Toss the chicken wings in the oil, salt, and garlic powder. Lay them in a single layer on a lined baking sheet and bake for 40-45 minutes or until crispy.

  2. While the wings are cooking, make the sauce. Combine all of the sauce ingredients in a saucepan. Let the sauce boil on medium high heat for 10-12 minutes until it begins to thicken and coat the back of a spoon. Once it begins to thicken, turn off the heat. The sauce will continue to thicken as it cools.

  3. Transfer them to a heat safe bowl and pour the sauce over the wings. Toss the wings in the sauce until well coated. Garnish with sliced green onions and enjoy!
