Sometimes you just want a good muffin, so I’m thrilled to share these healthy and delicious gluten free banana chocolate chip muffins with you today!

Banana and chocolate go together like peanut butter and jelly in my book. Like two peas in a pod. Like white on rice. Ok, I’m done. I promise. The banana and chocolate combo is such a classic one, so putting the two ingredients together in a muffin is pretty much a tasty no-brainer that we should all be able to get behind.

I love this healthier gluten-free muffin variety for a couple of reasons. First, it’s made with wholesome oat flour which is naturally gluten-free and cheap. Like so cheap. You can actually make oat flour yourself by blending or pulsing gluten-free rolled oats in a high-powered blender or food processor. Second, it’s a great way to use those spotty brown bananas that you know you aren’t going to eat. Be real with yourself girl, you know it’s not going to happen. Instead of letting those bananas go to waste, go ahead and whip up a batch of these easy banana chocolate chip muffins.

So, we’ve talked about oat flour and the obvious ingredient, bananas, but let’s chat about what else you need to whip these muffins up. To make these muffins you’ll also need:

  • plain greek yogurt

  • brown or coconut sugar

  • dark chocolate chips

The plain greek yogurt keeps these muffins tender and moist, while also packing a punch of protein. If you would like to keep these muffins dairy-free, you could also use a plain dairy-free almond or coconut milk greek yogurt. Next up, is the sugar. These muffins only call for half a cup total of brown or coconut sugar. The bananas are naturally sweet and the chocolate chips also add sweetness as well so there’s no need to use too much sugar in this recipe.

Last but certainly not least are the chocolate chips. I prefer dark chocolate chips over milk but feel free to use what you like best. You can also lower the amount of chocolate chips you use or cut them out altogether to make a simple and lower sugar banana muffin that would be delicious drizzled with peanut butter!

Also, if you’re like me and there’s no way you’re going to be able to eat 12 muffins, you can easily freeze these muffins and reheat them in a warm oven when you’re ready to eat!
