Loving Lately: She Reads Truth, PB Cups + Bedtime Tea

 
 

Happy Friday lovely people!

I'm just one 8 hour work day away from the weekend and I can't wait. In law school we used to call Thursday "law school Friday" because after your 1L year you pretty much never have class on Friday. That means for the past 2 years I've essentially had a 3 day weekend every week. Of course, there were always plenty of things to fill up that "empty" Friday - studying, meetings, errands, etc. - but it was so nice to have one full day each week that you could use as you please.

One of the hardest adjustments for me as a working professional has been re-organizing my schedule so I'm maximizing my free time and getting things done, while also still including moments of complete relaxation and un-planned, un-rushed living. I don't know about anyone else, but by the time I get home, hit the gym, cook dinner, and prep for the next day, my day is basically over. I had a slight (albeit dramatic) meltdown the other week when I realized all I was doing was going to work, coming home, and repeating that same cycle each day without really taking time do anything I truly enjoyed.

Looking back, I think I was just kind of run down and hadn't given myself a chance to truly sit still. M-F I'm up at 6:30am getting ready for work, Saturday I'm up by 8am to hit the grocery store, Sunday I'm up early for church, and by the time the week is over I haven't really relaxed. Can anyone else relate? 

Right now, I don't have a flexible work from home schedule or an option to take Fridays off, so I'm just choosing to be grateful and work with what I've got. Which is, honestly, a much better option than the complaining I was doing last week. As usual, a shift in my perspective always leads to a shift in my attitude. I'm also making small tweaks to my weekly schedule to help me feel a little less rushed and a little more relaxed. Two of the things I've been loving lately are really helping me do that. Keep reading to see what they are!

She Reads Truth

I've been a fan of She Reads Truth for a little while now, but I recently "rediscovered" them so to speak. I've been spending every morning on my metro ride to work reading their daily devotional. I love that they have scripture already picked out for you to read and a devotional reading to go along with the scripture.

What I really love about She Reads Truth is the amount of scripture they have for you to engage with each day. In other devotional apps I've used, there would only be one scripture reference. While there's nothing wrong with meditating on one verse, I was craving a bit more. SRT has multiple passages of scripture for you to engage with and I've really been looking forward to my devotional time each morning. 

Slow Saturday Mornings

Slowing down my Saturdays is something I'm really into right now and another way I'm un-rushing my life. Last Saturday, I spent time doing some prayer journaling with the scripture from She Reads Truth while enjoying a warm cup of tea from my bed. It was heaven.

I'll be honest, slowing down like this does not really come naturally for me, especially in the morning. I am the definition of a morning person and really like to get up and go first thing to start my day. Don't worry, I balance all of that morning energy with being in the bed by 9 and sleep by 10 o'clock. haha.

I'm noticing that there is some real benefit in slowing things down and really taking time to enjoy the moment, so I see many more slow Saturday mornings in my future. 

Justin's Mini Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups

True story - at one time I did not like peanut butter and chocolate. Well really I didn't like Reese's peanut butter cups. Still don't, if I'm being honest. They're overly sweet and don't really taste like real chocolate to me. I'll fully admit that I'm a bit of chocolate snob these days though, so there's that.

What I do LOVE are these dark chocolate peanut butter cups from Justin's. Y'all know how much I love dark chocolate. These little cups are the perfect combination of delicious dark chocolate and creamy peanut butter. I love that they aren't overly sweet.  They're also organic and have minimal REAL ingredients. Go get you some!...and then put them in the freezer before you dive in. Trust me. 

Yogi Bedtime Tea

Not sure why I've been so into tea lately, but I'm going with it. This week I've been loving the Bedtime Tea from Yogi. This tea is a blend of chamomile, licorice, cardamom, valerian root extract, and more. It's sweet, spicy, and such a calming treat to sip on and unwind before bed. I like to have mine with a little extra ginger root added in. You can probably find this at your local grocery store, but I linked to an Amazon option as well!
