Garlic Parmesan Popcorn

This easy stovetop popcorn is 10x better than the microwaved version could ever be.

I haven't made stove top popcorn in FOR-EVER. I pretty much haven't had popcorn in forever either. I think the only time I actually eat it is if I happen to go the movies, which is also rare. But, the other day when I was browsing on Instagram, I came across a picture of some fluffy freshly popped stove top popcorn and instantly wanted some. The idea of plain popcorn didn't sound that great, but garlic parmesan popcorn sounded fantastic so that's what I went with.

Microwaved popcorn is usually full of preservatives and less than stellar ingredients like bad oils. When you just buy the kernels and pop it yourself, you can choose your oil, level of salt, and even get creative with your flavors. Now that I have an entire bag of popcorn kernels in my pantry I'm pretty sure I'll be popping corn more often. I feel like a sweet version has to happen next!

Garlic Parmesan Popcorn

  • 1/2c popcorn kernels (I used this kind)
  • 3 tablespoons oil for popping (I used this kind)
  • 1/2 tablespoon ghee or melted butter
  • 1/2 tsp pink salt
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion salt
  • 3 tbsp grated parmesan cheese

  1. Heated 3 tablespoons of olive oil + few popcorn kernels in a heavy bottomed pot.
  2. When the kernels start to pop add in 1/2 cup of kernels to the pot, put the lid on, gave it a shake, and let everything pop!
  3. When the pops slow to 1-2 seconds between pop, remove the pot from the heat and crack the lid to release the steam.
  4. Then toss the popcorn in ghee, pink salt, onion salt, and a little parmesan cheese!
